Competition Time!

Hi all, so some new news, I entered the International Milliner of the Year Competition, organised by the UK Hat Magazine, and the finals will be held in Pret á Porter, Trade Show in Paris in September. Here are some photos of my designs. The theme was Steam Punk, which suggests the Sci-Fi Element of Victorian Machinery. I chose to remain close to my Irish Heritage and base the project on the scientific discoveries that took place in Birr Castle, Co.Offaly in the 1800′s. For 75 years Ireland had the largest telescope in the world.

Millinery Talk

Sarah McGahon the Milliner, has been asked by the Bray Arts Club to be their “Artist of the Month” and is doing a talk on her work and inspiration. She will be previewing her Re-Create collection, (this one is based on Origami) whereby the client brings in an old hat, it gets deconstructed and re-modeled into another headpiece. She is the only person in Ireland offering this service! This Talk is open to the public so all welcome

Sarah McGahon shows at Kerry Fashion Week

I am hosting the first showing of my Summer 09 head pieces. 

My Spring Summer 09 collection is inspired from Japanese Art Deco Pieces, they are small delicate, have clean lines, and have frivilous height.  They come in a range of candy colours.  They are exclusively available from 2 places,  Alilia in Drury Street in Dublin, and through myself. 

 

 

This 5 piece collection will be shown in the Boutique Boulevard section of Kerry Fashion Week:

The Catwalk show’s will take place at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm

Manor West Hotel, Tralee, County Kerry : Saturday 18th of April from 2pm

New Collection and Inspiration for Summer 09

The photo is my new inspiration/moodboard I’m working from, I wanted pared down shapes, I wanted fullness, and so the Japanese 1920′s Illustrator Erte, was my main inspiration, and other Art Deco Shapes
